How To Decide Between Swimming Pool Clarifier And Flocculant

No one wants to swim in a pool that is filled with grit. However, it can be difficult to remove the grit. You might do your research and find that there are two options on the market. The first is swimming pool clarifier, which brings all the pieces of dirt and dust into larger clumps so that they can be more easily removed by the filters. The second is flocculant. Flocculant for swimming pools takes all of the dust and dirt that is in the pool and forces them to the bottom so that it is much easier for you to vacuum them out. Both of these products will get the job done but you need to decide which is best for you. Here are some questions that you can ask yourself in order to choose.

1. How quickly do I need the particles removed?

If you need to have your pool cleaned within 8 - 12 hours, then you should make sure that you choose flocculant because you can simply add it to the pool, turn the pool's filters off overnight, and then allow all of the sediment to drift to the bottom of the pool for your to vacuum up. Having this process completed overnight tends to be easy for many pool owners.

If you don't want to worry about dealing with turning your pool off and it doesn't matter exactly when the pool is cleaned, as long as it eventually happens, you can choose swimming pool clarifier.

2. Do you regularly turn your pool off to conserve energy?

If you regularly turn your pool off to conserve energy, then you will not want to go with a swimming pool clarifier. In order for a clarifier to work, you need to have the filters on full blast all day every day until all of the sediment is removed. You turn off your pool overnight with flocculant, allowing you to reduce your overall energy costs.

3. Do you have time to swim regularly in your pool?

If you don't swim regularly in the pool while the swimming pool clarifier is in it, then the clarifier won't be nearly as effective and not as many particles will be removed. If you have the time to swim regularly for a few days, clarifier is the way to go. Otherwise, use flocculant.
